Rida Ortego served as an elementary classroom teacher in Georgetown ISD for 19 years and is now an Assistant Principal for the Lake Travis Independent School District.

She started her teaching career as a bilingual Kindergarten teacher, and her teaching experience includes serving monolingual, bilingual, and dual-language students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Her continuous love of learning led her to obtain a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas in 2019 and Principal as Instructional Leader (EC-12) certification in 2020. She also holds Early Childhood-4th Grade, Bilingual/ESL, and Secondary Spanish 6-12 certifications.

She feels fortunate that her passion is her profession, and her efforts to ensure academic success for all students have been evident in and outside the classroom. Over the years, she has served on many campus and district-level committees that have allowed her to represent and be a voice for students, teachers, and parents. She has served as a faculty representative on the Site-Based Decision-Making Committee and District Performance Council, nominated and elected by her peers consecutively for several years. She was appointed to serve on the District of Innovation Committee and volunteered on the 2018 Community Advisory Bond Committee. Her instructional leadership experience also includes serving as Pre-K/Kindergarten Summer School Principal and Assistant Principal for elementary and middle school summer school programs.

When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three sons, daughters-in-law, and dog Barkley. She loves reading motivational and inspirational books, dining out, and pursuing new challenges.
